This Year’s Inspiring Lineup of Presenters. All are welcome.

Life Beyond Addiction

My first 10 years of recovery were what I would call…intense. Characterized by epic highs, heart-crushing lows, emotional swings, death-defying codependent relationships and the like. Much of it was fun and exciting, but very little of it was calm, cool and contented.

Very fortunately for me, through all the ups and downs, I took my 12-Step work and recovery efforts seriously. As a result, I recovered from the endless cravings to use drugs and alcohol. Would you believe that I have not had a single craving to use for more than 30 years? If that seems crazy to you, believe me when I tell you it blows my mind.

I have known several emotional bottoms in my recovery. Each time, there was pain and suffering, and each time, there were teachers and teachings there for me to follow. Like lighthouses keeping me from crashing on a rocky shore, these people guided me to calmer waters and ultimately into the light of freedom.

Being in 12-Step Recovery, I encountered many people like me who had been relieved from their primary addictions only to suffer in other ways. There seemed to still be a “stuckness”. Other forms of addiction related to food, relationships, sex, money and technology were there in full force. In the book, Recovery 2.0, I coined a term called “The Frequency of Addiction” to describe this continuing pattern of addiction which remained long into people’s recoveries, and which, in many cases, perpetuated the psychic pain people had been dealing with in “active addiction”.

When my life path of recovery started to include the life path of yoga, new possibilities started to take shape. Once again, a teacher was there to guide me and what resulted was profound transformation. Patterns of chronic stress, physical and emotional pain were broken. I learned to overcome previously insurmountable difficulties in relationships and with money. I had found a combination of things that took me to the next level of healing…and i knew these things could be helpful to others.

About 10 years ago, I produced my first online conference in order to share the teachings and the love that had been shared with me. I recorded a series of conversations with thought leaders who had wisdom and lived experience, and made the recordings available online for free for anyone who was called to participate.

16,000 people attended that first one and in the years that followed that number grew. To date, the Recovery 2.0 Conference Series has positively impacted the lives of more than a million people.

Now, 10 years later, I am producing the 11th Recovery 2.0 “Life Beyond Addiction” Conference. It runs from May 8–12, 2024, and, as always, is FREE to attend. This year, I have interviewed 33 extraordinary people. I tell you these talks have blown my mind. They strengthen my recovery and make my life even sweeter. Our focus is “Life Beyond Addiction” to draw attention to how people can navigate the considerable challenges and thrive once in recovery.

I tell people, “Get a journal and pen, and if you only take in one single video in 5 days, that would be worth your time. The conference is such a powerful opportunity for learning and is truly necessary for the person looking to thrive in a Life Beyond Addiction.
